The Ochres of Haleakala
Then thousand feet above the Pacific Ocean, the summit of Haleakala is painted in a seemingly infinite diversity of ochres. The giant volcano has been slowly dying over the last half million years, but small cinder cones have formed in its summit during that time, reminding us that there is still fire within.
