The combination of light, composition, detail and lens rendition - what one might call visual impact - is what guides my photography. My projects are collections of images built around a simple idea - the low-angle light of high latitudes, the tacit human qualities of a city or country, the distinctive geomorphology and vegetation of a region. Color, geometry, exposure, lens character - these single attributes can also define a project.
Most of my photographs are made with twentieth-century lenses, some of them more than half a century old. I store the images either digitally or on film, depending on what I wish to tell. I prize authenticity and realism, and do not edit what the camera saw, beyond creative tonal and color adjustments. I avoid composite images of all types. Every one of my photographs begins with a single raw file or a single negative, composed following canonical rules. During post-production I infuse my vision and my style. Colors that are strong yet not saturated. Contrast that leaves no doubt as to the intention of the image. Sharpness that is compelling but not surgical. I do all of my processing on Capture One; no image-manipulation software is used in the creation of any of my images. Photoshop and artificial intelligence have no place in my creative process.
I am not, have never been, and will never be, part of any “social media” coterie, but I do contribute to the wonderful Glass photographic community, where you can see more of my work. You can also stay updated on new content by signing up for the mailing list. Updates are infrequent - only a few per year. I promise that your mailbox will not be stuffed. My evolving catalog includes a few thousand images, most of which are available for printing or digital licensing. Details can be arranged by contacting me at: albertopatinodouce@gmail.com
