Aurora Borealis
Some ancient cultures may have left behind rock-art representations of the Northern Lights, but the evidence is controversial. Not too long ago photographing auroras on film was an uncertain proposition - I know, because I tried. The lens that saw these scenes and told the digital sensor what to record, however, is a venerable Carl Zeiss Distagon, designed in the 1950’s.
